Private Screening is a seriocomic lecture about machine learning and time in relation to power and language. The work performs, then disintegrates, the parlance of the corporate tech sector, exploring how formal language functions as a deflective shield against agency and accountability. Behind this lies an implicit critique of the damage inflicted by innovative 'disruptions' and the tech industry's tacit perpetuation of systemic violence. The piece also includes several boxes, a bird, and a window to the stars.
The piece was originally commissioned by the City of Chicago as part of a Goat Island retrospective at the Chicago Cultural Center, where it premiered in 2019. In 2022 it was translated into French by Olivier Mathieu and presented in Marseille and Montreal.
